Below are the 21 solar car teams competing in the American Solar Challenge 2016, with their current status based on required pre-race documentation, as well as social media hyperlinks. Registration and scrutineering for the race begin on 22 July, the qualifying track race (FSGP 2016) begins on 26 July, and the race itself begins on 30 July, with the Award Ceremony being held on 6 August. 2 – Michigan – Status: GREEN

Michigan came 4th in the 2015 World Solar Challenge in Australia and won ASC 2014, making them the fastest American team, and race favourites. They have been doing extensive pre-race testing for ASC 2016.
3 – Kentucky – Status: YELLOW

Last reports have this team doing on-road testing.
6 – Berkeley (CalSol) – Status: GREEN

Last reports concerned fundraising.
9 – Iowa State (PrISUm) – Status: GREEN

This team won FSGP 2015. They have a teaser video for ASC 2016 here, and there is also some news coverage.
11 – Northwestern – Status: YELLOW

Last reports have the team assembling the car.
13 – Michigan State – Status: RED (multiple issues)

This team have been displaying their car at auto shows.
15 – ZHAW (Solar Energy Racers) – Status: YELLOW 
This Swiss team has crossed the Atlantic, has been reunited with their car, and is now camped in Pittsburgh.
17 – Illinois State – Status: GREEN

The team reports that the car is working.
24 – Waterloo (Midnight Sun) – Status: YELLOW

32 – Principia – Status: GREEN

Principia came 17th in the 2015 World Solar Challenge in Australia and 6th in the Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge. They have been doing extensive pre-race testing for ASC 2016.
35 – Minnesota – Status: YELLOW

Minnesota came 5th in the 2015 World Solar Challenge Cruiser Class, the only American team in that class. Last reports had them getting strange reactions from truckers.
42 – Missouri S&T – Status: YELLOW

Last reports mentioned being race-ready. There is also some news coverage here.
49 – Georgia Tech – Status: RED

Last reports had the team still building the car.
51 – Dunwoody (American Solar Energy Racers) – Status: YELLOW 
This team is reported to be in Pittsburgh.
55 – Poly Montreal – Status: GREEN

The team have been testing their car.
57 – SIUE – Status: RED (multiple issues)

Last reports had the team still working on the car.
77 – Toronto (Blue Sky) – Status: GREEN

Toronto came 12th in the 2015 World Solar Challenge in Australia.
92 – ETS Quebec – Status: YELLOW

The team have been testing their car.
116 – McMaster – Status: YELLOW

Last reports mentioned a successful test.
786 – Western Michigan – Status: YELLOW

Last reports mentioned adding wheels to their car. Wheels are good.
828 – Appalachian State – Status: YELLOW
