World Solar Challenge: Morning, Day 3

Here are the World Solar Challenge GPS positions as at 09:59 Tuesday October 20 (Darwin time) – Day 3 of the race.

Calculated road distances below are approximate, based on interpolation between the known road distances to control stops. The second road distance shown (in grey) is adjusted to compensate for GPS delays. The top five teams – Twente (21), Nuon (3), Michigan (2), Tokai (10), and Punch (8), in that order – have all reached Alice Springs, although Nuon seems to have surged ahead since then. The weather outlook seems to have improved slightly, although teams carrying a meteorologist along will probably have a strategy edge. Punch were initially given a one-hour penalty, but apparently a phone call put this on hold. Eindhoven have a non-functioning GPS, so it’s not clear where they are.

Western Sydney (13) took pictures on reaching Barrow Creek. Liberty confirm that they are partially trailering, because their car doesn’t meet the minimum speed requirements. They will be ranked by number of solar-powered kilometres travelled. Cambridge had to partially trailer to Tennant Creek. See the tracker page, timing board, and social media for continued updates.
