Photosynthesis seen from space

It is a little-known fact that, as well as reflecting light, plants actually emit small quantities of light through fluorescence (see NASA diagram of a chloroplast below). The NASA image above (from July this year) is the result of disentangling this fluorescence from other forms of light. It is actually possible to see photosynthesis happening from space!
